Emporia Dance traces its beginnings back to 2004, when Elaine Fenters sought to fill a need in the Emporia/Greensville community by offering dance classes. The studio has moved around quite a bit through the years, having been located on Brunswick Avenue, Baker Street, S. Main Street, and currently Halifax Street. Since 2004, Emporia Dance has grown from an enrollment of approximately fifty students to consistently over one hundred, with some years significantly higher. The studio, which began with tap, ballet, jazz, and pointe classes, has expanded over the years to include baton, cheering, lyrical, tumbling and hip-hop classes. In 2013, ownership of the studio changed hands to Kaitlynn Holland, a former student of Elaine Fenters. Elaine still has a presence in the studio, helping with rehearsal, recital, and tap needs. Our current instructors, Kaitlynn Holland, Katie Turner, Carrie Holt, and Hannah Tuck offer a wide variety of excellent dance training. Classes are offered for ages three to adult with separate levels designated by age group and ability.
The 2018-2019 dance year brings many new and excited ventures for Emporia Dance. We are adding on new studio space as well as adding new classes to our schedule. As of 2018, we will now be offering Boys Hip Hop, Flexibilty and Acrobatic Dance, Pre-Tumbling, and Musical Theater.
